The Highland School District will be closed tomorrow February 17th to on-site learning due to inclement weather. Tomorrow will be a virtual learning day.

Highland Rebels: As you know, due to the weather and road conditions tomorrow, Tuesday, February 16, 2021 will be a virtual learning day. Even so, we also want to stress that all of our teachers and administrators agree that these virtual days must not be just about learning, but also must be about flexibility. We know that some families are without power and some are without internet service. We also know that some families want to spend some of this time playing in the snow. We fully understand all of this and we want our students to be able to have fun with the snow while continuing to learn with their teachers and classmates. All days missed due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances must be converted to virtual learning days, or they have to be made up at a later date. If we don’t convert these inclement weather days to virtual days we will have to use our spring break days for make-up days and add any additional days on to the end of the year. These are not just local Highland School District requirements, but are the same guidelines that all public school districts in Arkansas must follow.
Mr. Sharp
Superintendent

As part of a coordinated response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) in partnership with the Office for Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas has developed this Parent/Guardian Survey for soliciting family input on what is working now and what may be considered for the future.
Parent Survey purpose
The survey seeks to involve families in an organized, ongoing and timely way in planning, review, and improvement. The survey—which will remain open for two (2) weeks—will provide feedback regarding:
* family concerns
* how families are making decisions
* family awareness of options and resources available
* family considerations for the future
The intention of this survey is not to identify individual district responses, but rather to establish an understanding of the state as a whole. The information will be aggregated by region only; therefore, families will be asked to identify the region of the state in which they live in order to understand the distribution of the survey without specifically identifying any district by name.
The survey will close on Friday, November 20. OEP will be sharing results at the December State Board meeting.

Verizon is offering wireless customers an additional 15gb of additional data to unlimited and shared data plans between March 25th to April 30th. https://vz.to/3ca0jBX 4/5

We understand this technology is new to most of you, and you may be struggling. For all technical issues contact our tech department directly at tech@highlandrebels.org (message 1/5)

In accordance with our 19-20 school calendar, there is no school/AMI tomorrow. Our offices will also be closed. If you need a Chromebook or K-6 supplies, come to central office today 9-2. For now hold on to AMI packets, we will send pickup information at a later date.

To use the wifi select HSD Guest as the network. There is no password required.

We have created some places where you can access wifi in our parking lots. In the CES parking lot, it’s in the back by the cafe. At the A. L. Hutson, it’s in the parking lot from where the doors open toward Rebel Dr. We will add the HHS parking lot by next week. We have a wifi map on Facebook. Watch our Facebook Live at 1 pm tomorrow for more details.

Notice: The school Chromebooks we are handing out are still CIPA(Child Internet Protection Act) compliant. We will continue to get notifications about cyber bullying and viewing explicit content. Please use the Chromebooks appropriately.

The Governor just extend the on-site instruction closure through the rest of the school year. The AMI and digital learning will continue through the end of the year.

Forgotten your password? Email tech@highlandrebels.org for a password reset. Most phones have email capabilities. For elementary students you may check with their teacher first.

To sign on to a Chromebook you have to have an internet connection. If you are waiting on internet, please be patient. We will have more details for you on that tomorrow.
